Mountain View
Chez TJ
Just off the main Castro Street drag, you'll find a house-turned-restaurant called Chez TJ at 938 Villa Street.
Unless I'm mistaken, this is Mountain View's major claim to fine-dining. The restaurant goads you towards a fixed menu options with 12 smaller courses and wines for $110.
As of this writing, the menu boasts dishes such as:
Lobster and Wild Mushroom Medley Black Truffle Saveur, Julienne Spinach, Chervil with 2004 Macon Cruzille, "Les Avoueries" Demessey, Brugundy, France
Atlantic Seared Brazino Leek Duo, Argan Oil, Cabernet Reduction with 2003 Domaine de Saint-Just, Saumur Champigny
Duo of Niman Ranch Lamb Parmentier Potato, Fennel, Rosemary Garlic Jus with 2002 Monte Lomas Cabernet Sauvignon, Mendoza, Argentina
The elegant Victorian house has been around since about 1894, making it a real Mountain View landmark. The restaurant tries to stick to these local roots by getting a lot of its produce from area farmers.
Shamefully, I can't comment on how good the food actually is, as I've yet to dine at Chez TJ. It did, however, pick up two Michelin stars in the 2008 Bay Area Guide, if you're into that sort of thing.
